More than 60 years ago this family-owned market was the only grocery store in Solomons Island for 30 miles. The original market was tucked between a hardware and another store.
Woodburns ran a free bus to the store from senior housing in nearby Lusby and to Solomons marinas for visiting boaters.
Eventually, Woodburns could not compete with new shopping strips and a large chain food store. The store closed, the property was leased to the County and the Southern Library Branch was moved to the vacant store.
