On the northern border of Calvert County, Chesapeake Beach is the closest recreation area to the beltways and Annapolis.
The town now boasts a water park, railway museum, charter boats, marina, boat ramp, and good restaurants. It has been a resort area for Washington, DC since 1899, when the Chesapeake Beach Railway was completed and visitors spent 50 cents for the 45 minute ride from Washington. The railroad died with the Great Depression and the remains turned into the Chesapeake Railway Museum.
Charter boat and head boat fishing are now its biggest business.
