Bill Brown, Roadside Artist

If you drive around the County, you might notice a man with an easel under a shady tree.

He is a man on a mission. For about 10 years Bill Brown has been preserving historic Calvert County houses, barns, and buildings in drawings and paintings. He has painted houses in their original state and given or sold them to the new owners. He painted most of the buildings on Main Street before they were razed and replaced. His current project is the unrestored out-buildings at Linden (on Church Street).

His paintings hang in doctors’ offices, real estate offices, and private homes.

Bill attended the Corcoran School of Art and Design on a full scholarship, but quit to support his growing family. He went to work in construction and built his home in Calvert County. He eventually retired to his original career of choice—painting.
